August Favorites

Hi World!

Seeing as today is the last day of August, I'd thought I'd do a little favorites post. A lot of my favorite Youtubers do favorites videos and I enjoy seeing what they love on a monthly basis. So, without further ado, here are the things I've been loving this month.

Food

Eggo Waffles

(Source)

I've loved eating Eggo waffles ever since I was a kid. Fun fact: I ate these almost every day for breakfast in middle school. But I don't just have them for breakfast. I can eat them at any time of the day and they'll make me a happy boy. For breakfast or a snack, I like spreading either some peanut butter or Nutella on them, and then placing slices of banana on top. Other times, I'll just slather on some cream cheese and be good to go. And if I want it for lunch, I'll use it as sandwich bread. Maybe as a blogger I should have taken my own pictures, but I'm still new to the blogging world. Let me know if you want a full blog post (with pictures this time) on how I eat these.

Album

"TRXYE" by Troye Sivan

(Source)

I've been following Mr. Troye for a while now and I got so excited when I found out that he was releasing his own music.I had his debut EP, "TRXYE," on repeat for days. I love all five of the songs and I want more music from him soon. He has a really great voice that's so nice to listen to. His sound is really unique. It's pop, but with an electronic feel to it.

"Yours Truly" by Ariana Grande

I'm hopping on the late train for this one. "Yours Truly" was released I think a year ago, but I've only listened to it the last stretch of August. This one has also been on repeat for days and days. I especially love "Honeymoon Avenue," "Baby I," and "Daydreamin'," though all the songs are great. She has such a beautiful voice. Girl. Can. Sing. I've loved her voice since Victorious and it's great to see her doing so well with her own music.

Cover

"Problem" by Pentatonix

Like all the other music I've mentioned so far, this one has been on repeat. When I first heard bought this, it was the only song I listened to for about three days. Luckily, my siblings love Pentatonix and they didn't mind hearing it all day. Also, me and my sister had fun trying to learn the rap. I almost have it down! I love the original version of this song, but I really like the "hoo hoo hoos" throughout the song. I love how PTX puts their own spin on covers and makes it their own.

Song

"Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift

I was surprised when I heard that Taylor Swift was going to release a full pop album, but excited nevertheless. I've been dancing to this sick beat like there's no tomorrow. Shaking my booty left and right with that "fella over there with the hella good hair." ;)

Movie

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2," directed by Marc Webb

(Source)

Again, a passenger on the late train, but I just watched this movie last weekend and I loved it! The first one was great too, but I may have liked this one better. Great action and the acting was fantastic. I really like Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. And can we all just appreciate how adorable he and Emma Stone are? I mean, really though. Can I have a cute relationship too? 'Kay thanks.

What have you been loving this summer?

Thoughts | Driving For the First Time

Hi World!

I just wanted to write a post to share my thoughts on my first driving experience. Earlier this month, I passed my written driving test and received my permit (read about my thoughts on that HERE). After receiving my permit, the next step to getting my license was a Behind-the-Wheel lesson, which is required before I actually practice driving.

So the instructor came to my house with a student driver car and we practiced for around two hours at a local parking lot. I did some parking, three-point turns, U-turns, and just tried to get comfortable with the idea of being the driver of the car rather than a passenger.

Guess what? I give myself car headaches, aka motion sickness. I remember feeling a headache coming on somewhere during the session, but it wasn't that bad. Maybe it was nerves... or maybe the million different turns I took. Who knows? I was terrified to start, but honestly, it wasn't that bad. However, I traveled at a speed where squirrel could outrun me and constantly feared for the lives of any car that dared enter the vicinity of the parking lot. Apologies for not having a picture of me looking petrified, I was a bit busy trying not to run over things.

The instructor was really nice and super patient. I did well with my three-point turns and U-turns, but I struggled with parking. I can't seem to park straight and in between the lines, which may or may not be important when parking.

Something I find exciting is that now I can listen to songs about driving and (kinda) relate to them. For example, "Honeymoon Avenue" by Ariana Grande and "Drive" by Megan and Liz, to name a few. Anywho, driving wasn't all that bad and I'm still scared for all the humans that will be on the road with me in the future, but I'm actually a little excited to be able to drive now...

For you older readers, how did you feel driving for the first time? And for those not yet old enough to drive, are you excited to drive? Lemme know down below!

The Trace Has Been Broken!

Hi World!

As of 2ish hours ago, it is my seventeenth birthday. Though I technically don't turn 17 until around noon, it still counts as my birthday.

I'm actually excited to be able to tell people I'm 17 years old. 16, I feel, is more of a special age for girls because a number of them have their "sweet sixteen" parties. Guys don't usually have one of those cool parties. Plus, I'm not really the party type anyway. 18, on the other hand, means legal adult status, which sounds gross to me. Now, 17 has a cool meaning to me because, if you're a fan of Harry Potter, you know that once a wizard or witch reaches this age, something called the Trace breaks and you're not considered underage anymore (read about it HERE). If I lived in the world of Harry Potter, I'd be able to do magic whenever I want now, which would be crazy awesome.

In the spirit of it being my seventeenth birthday, the Trace breaking, and it being Throwback Thursday, here is a lovely picture of me a couple years ago, Bieber hair, braces, and all. Cute. I was dressed up as, apparently, a cross between a Gryffindor and Ravenclaw student from Hogwarts (I'm in Ravenclaw).

For the past couple years, birthdays haven't meant a ton to me. Like, I'd always special for a little bit, but then it'd just be another day. 17 feels a little different though, which is a nice change.

I hope you enjoyed this little post on late night/early morning birthday thoughts. How do you feel about birthdays? Any special things that you do every year for yourself? Let me know in the comments. I'd love to read them. Alrighty, I'll leave you with a snapchat that is the first picture of me as a seventeen year old.

Watch Out Road!

Hi World!

So today I took my permit test and... I passed! Woo yeah! *does celebratory dance* This was my first attempt at the test and I'm glad I don't have to do it again. The DMV has too many humans in one place than I care to handle and there was lots and lots of waiting. The test was a touch screen test (whoa, technology is taking over y'all), which surprised me because I was expecting a written test. It was easy enough to use though, so that was good. Anywho, guess that means I'll be driving soon. Am I excited, you ask? Not really.

I don't necessarily feel like I need to get my driver's license quite yet. I mainly did it cuz my parents wanted me to. I mean it's not a bad thing that I'm one step closer to being an official driver, but to me when you start driving, you take a huge step towards adulthood. I don't want that yet. I don't wanna grow up yet. In a month, I'll be an official senior in high school, which means college/university is only a year-ish away. That's terrifying.

Okay, back to the topic of driving. Most of my friends can drive now. Funnily enough, in my "main friend group," which is comprised of mainly girls, everyone can drive except for the two boys. See, I never felt like driving because my mom would always drive me to where I needed to be. And I guess that's a bit selfish, but it's what I'm used to. I like being a passenger in cars. Car rides soothe me. The cool wind in my face, some nice music, the scenery passing by... all of this without having to worry about crashing into another human maneuvering a hunk of metal on wheels. Seems stressful to me.

On another note, I'm kinda scared to drive. I'd have to be in charge of other people's lives. I feel like I would keep thinking, "Ah sh*t, someone's gunna die today..."

However like all things, there are perks to being able to drive. For example, I can go to places whenever I want. This means driving over to friends' houses or grabbing a quick bite to eat whenever I feel like it. I can also go on more adventures. There is a level of freedom. But you know what people say, "With freed great freedom comes great responsibility" (okay it's 'great power,' but work with me here). Parents can ask me to drive places to  pick stuff up for them (which, for the most part, I wouldn't mind) or drive for them on long road trips (sure, they work hard, let 'em rest). Bottom line, being able to drive pushes you into doing adult things and growing up.

Well, this post got a bit rambly (apologies), but I do love a good long post from my favorite bloggers. I will leave you with a picture of me "driving" a rad car that I found on a playground. At least people are safe from me running them over when I'm in this bad boy.

10 Random Facts About Me

Hi World!

So... if we wanna be friends, I think we have to try and get to know one another. Here are 10 random facts about me:

  1. My favorite color is blue, but I LOVE seeing a rich evergreen-esque color when I go to new places.
  2. I've never been to a country outside of North America.
  3. I don't like coffee. I'd rather have tea or hot chocolate as a hot drink.
  4. Speaking of drinks, my favorite drink is water (I know, I'm so snoozeville, but hey, it's good for ya).
  5. Airports give me a sense of adventure, so I don't hate them like a lot of people seem to.
  6. I would love to experience fall/autumn like the images that are associated with the season. Southern California doesn't really have seasons. We just have Hot, Kinda Hot, and Rain (2ish week period).
  7. Similar to the way people like having their toes in the warm sand on the beach (which I do like), I like putting my bare feet in soft, cool grass.
  8. Sunset/twilight/dusk/sundown is my favorite time of day, especially in the summer when this time is a little later.
  9. I'm soon to enter my senior year of high school and I'm not too sure I'm ready to grow up just yet.
  10. I'm currently eating a waffle with cream cheese. Yum.

So come along with me on this new adventure of mine and let's have a grand ole time!
